Studying the Certificate IV in Apparel and Fashion at Holmesglen

This course focuses on four core industry skill areas: design, patternmaking, production, and materials and technology. Key fashion skills and knowledge covered include:<p>- Understanding how the design process contributes to a sustainable circular economy influences pattern development and garment production.<br>- Creating a pattern library by developing pattern blocks and styles<br>- Enhancing technical skills for garment maintenance and producing high-quality samples and clothing<br>- Communicating design concepts to an industry panel and developing production specifications.<br>- Gaining a comprehensive understanding of fabrics, emerging materials, and labelling requirements.<p>Upon completion, you'll be equipped to operate specialised machinery, apply industry-standard quality assurance, comprehend the design process, create patterns, and use digital design technology for effective communication in the fashion industry.

Entry Requirements

Minimum age requirement 17 years and older and must have completed year 11.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and attend a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

To receive this qualification, you must complete 20 units in total, comprising 8 core units and 12 elective units.<p>Full-time study of 20 units completes the qualification in 2 semesters (1 year) of study.<p>The course is delivered over 4 days, and each day introduces learners to a different area of the industry. The units are grouped into industry skill sets, which are Design, Patternmaking, Garment Construction/Production, and Material/Technology.
