Studying the Certificate IV in Furniture Design and Manufacturing at Holmesglen

Throughout your Holmesglen training, you will have the opportunity to be mentored by industry experts, setting you up for a career in this growing, competitive industry.<p>The course focus is on enabling students to design and produce individual fine furniture for display, custom production, and furniture for volume production.<p>Furniture designers are experts in creating and designing furnishings while considering both fashion and functionality.<p>They design interior and exterior furniture, often keeping factors like sustainability, ergonomics, customer style preferences and practicality in mind.

Entry Requirements

1. Good passes at Year 11 or the overseas equivalent<p>2. Students must be at least 18 at the commencement of the course.<br> Students will have to attend an LLN assessment session prior to the course <br> commencing to determine their LLN level to determine whether support is required.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must demonstrate competency in : <br>Total number of units = 18<br>• 5 core units<br>• 13 elective units selected from those listed below, or from any endorsed training package or accredited course (these units must be relevant to the work outcome), and comprising:<br>• a minimum of 8 MSF-coded units<br>• a minimum of 1 unit from each of Groups A to F.<p>The remaining 4 electives may be chosen from any endorsed training package or accredited course (these units must be relevant to the work outcome). Units selected from other training packages and accredited courses must not duplicate units available within this qualification.

Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

Additional Course Cost

Students will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when undertaking practical activities. The personal protective equipment and course materials students will be required to supply are: <br>Safety boots (Leather uppers) <br>Work pants and shirt <br>Safety glasses <br>Ear protection AS1270 (Earmuffs) <br>Gloves (Level 5 Cut Resistant Gloves) <br>Notebook, blue or black pen/biro, HB pencil, eraser <br>Retractable Steel Tape (Metric 3m/5m) <br>150mm Steel Ruler <br>1m folding ruler <br>Chisels 1 of each (6mm, 12mm, 25mm) <br>Materials to produce your designs. <br>BYO device / Laptop approximately $400 plus <br>The total cost of these items is between $550 - $1400 <br>If additional safety equipment is required, it will be supplied by the Institute.

An additional administration fee may apply where the application is submitted directly to Holmesglen and not through a Holmesglen-approved education agent.
