Studying the Bachelor of Information Systems at Holmesglen

The Bachelor of Information Systems is professionally accredited with the <a href= "https://www.acs.org.au/ ">Australian Computer Society (ACS).</a><p><br>The course gives students broad capability across the areas of networking, programming, web design, database design, cyber security and business analytics. <p>Subjects feature learning in business analysis, cloud computing, virtualisation, cyber security, big data and business intelligence, business management, information security and network security.

Entry Requirements

To be eligible, students must be at least 17 years of age.<p>Prior to enrolment or commencement of this higher education program, you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment. This will assist with determining your suitability to the course, and identify any learning support needs.<p><strong>Applicants with Recent Secondary Education (within the past two years)</strong><br>This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection consideration. <p>An applicant may be admitted to the course after completing VCE with the following:<br> <br>• Units 3 and 4 English Language with a study score of at least 20, OR English as an Additional Language (EAL) with a study score of at least 25.<p><strong>For these three applicant types: <br>Applicants with Higher Education Study<br>Applicants with Vocational Education and Training (VET) Study<br>Applicants with Work and Life experience</strong> <p><strong>The following entry requirements apply:</strong> <br>Your entire academic record will be considered<br>You will also be required to attend a 30-minute interview where your suitability for enrolment will be determined. <p>You should bring supporting documentation for review, which could include:<br>a personal CV outlining your relevant work and life experience<br>letters of reference from employers<br>documents relating to prior study, including course and subject transcripts, and course and subject outline documents. <br> <br>The Computing and IT Department will contact you to arrange an interview time, once you have applied.
All applicants are required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment as part of the interview process. This assessment is used to identify your suitability for the course, and identify any learning support needs. <p>Holmesglen requires learners to be able to:<br>switch on a computer<br>save and organise files<br>send and read emails<br>follow instructions to instal software/applications.
<strong>Pathways into the course</strong><br>Applicants who already hold a certificate, diploma or higher qualification in an IT field will be offered an admissions pathway into the Bachelor of Information Systems.<p>Advanced Standing will be considered for applicants who have:<br>been awarded an IT diploma or higher in the last 5 years<br>have more than 2 years’ experience working in the IT industry.<p>Applicants seeking advanced standing need to apply to enrol. The Computing and IT Department will contact you to arrange an interview to review your Advanced Standing application. During the 30-minute interview, you will be asked to submit evidence of qualifications and/or work experience in the IT field. <p>Suitable evidence can included: <br>qualification documents<br>qualification transcripts<br>original course and subject outlines<br>work position descriptions or a CV<br>proof of employment<br>a letter of reference from your employer

Advanced standing

Assessment

A variety of assessment methods are used, including technical reports, laboratory reports, network design models, practical strategy assessments, written assignments, literature reviews, practical case studies, group projects, individual and group presentations, online quizzes, practical labs, exams, research reports, feasibility reports and classroom hurdle tasks. Final year there is a capstone project.

Student Services and Amenities Fee $351 Per Year

All local higher education students are required to pay a compulsory Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). This fee contributes to the cost of providing student support services including counselling, welfare services, learning support and other activities provided by the student support and wellbeing teams. The SSAF is charged each semester and the amount you pay depends on whether you’re a full time or part time student. The annual maximum amount is set by the Government and will vary according to your study load. Students studying on campus and online will be charged the same SSAF based on their study load. All local higher education students are required to pay this fee at the time of enrolment. Tuition Assurance Requirements

Under the Higher Education Support Act 2003, Holmesglen Institute must meet tuition assurance requirements for persons, other than overseas students, who are enrolled in the higher education courses we offer in the event we cease to provide a course of study in which a student is enrolled.
