Studying the Diploma of Community Services at Holmesglen

This interactive and supportive course ensures that you develop the skills, knowledge and confidence you require to support your growth as a professional in the community services sector.<p>The delivery is blended with face to face classes supported by our e-learning platform.<p>The course training involves simulation activities, where you will practice intake, assessment and counselling skills with real life scenarios.<p>Placement will not only ensure you are competent and work ready, but will also provide you with experience working as a community services worker, and a source of valuable networks for employment.<p>Students will also participate in a community development project that will give you the skills to develop, implement and review projects within the community.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must be aged at least 18 at course commencement and are required to <br>- commit to 200 hours of mandatory fieldwork placement during their course.<br>- commute up to 2 hours each way to their placement location.<br>Before you can start your practical placement, you will be required to:<br>- provide a clear National Criminal History (Police) Check<br>- provide a Working with Children Check<br>- You may be required to apply for an NDIS Worker Screening Check.
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview.<p>These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

To receive this qualification, you must complete twelve core units and eight elective units.<p>Elective units have been chosen by Holmesglen based on feedback from industry, current policy directions in the community services field. <p>If you have already completed other eligible elective units, these may be counted towards completion of this program.<p>You may choose to enrol in either a face-to-face delivery of this course, or a remote, evening delivery. <p><strong>Face to Face delivery</strong><br>Through our face-to-face delivery mode, you will attend classes 2-3 days per week for the duration of your course, from 9.30am to 3.30pm at your chosen campus. There will be no attendance requirement during Victorian school holiday times. This delivery mode is recommended for students who are new to the community services sector or to diploma level study. <p>Face-to-face intakes include: <br> -February and July at Moorabbin campus

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.

Additional Course Cost

Students will be required to obtain a National Police Records Check and Working with Children Check. The approximate cost of these items is $140. Students will also be required to purchase textbooks during latter stages of the program, totalling $140.
