Studying the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) at Holmesglen

Studying the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability), you will develop the skills needed to offer person-centred support to two main groups:<p>- Older individuals, whether they are at home, in the community, or residing in a residential aged care facility.<p>- People living with disabilities, whether they are at home or in the community,<p>During the course, you will also receive COVID-safe infection control training. All the learning materials and support resources are accessible through our online learning management system. To put your newly acquired skills into practice, you will undertake a four-week work placement with some of our prominent industry partners.<p>With the significant success of the NDIS, there is a high demand for qualified workers in all areas of the disability sector. Many of our students are offered employment upon completing their placements.

Entry Requirements

Before you can start your practical placement, you will be required to provide:<br>- evidence that you are 18 years old or over<br>- a clear National Criminal History (Police) Check<br>- a record of your immunisation history<br>- evidence of at least 3 COVID-19 vaccinations<br>- evidence of your flu vaccination<br>- a clear NDIS Worker Screening Check<br>- a WWC Check Card (Employee)
Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by another registered training organisation will be recognised by Holmesglen. Read more about Recognition of Prior Learning, Credits and Advanced Standing.

Course Structure

Timetable

Holmesglen offers effective study options (fully on-campus training with access to online learning resources). You will need to attend classes 3 days per week for 19 weeks from 9.30am – 4.00pm. You will also need to complete some online learning tasks.<p>Your timetable options are:<br>Chadstone campus (face-to-face, on-campus delivery)<br>Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday groups<br>Wednesday, Thursday and Friday groups<p>To receive this qualification you must complete 9 core units and 6 elective units. Holmesglen has chosen elective units based on industry feedback around the skills required for the job. If you have already completed other eligible units, they may be counted towards this program.<p>Practical placement is split into two, two-week blocks and your attendance is required from 7am to 3pm, Monday to Friday (for the Ageing Block), and may vary from morning to afternoon shifts in negotiation with you and your host organisation (for the Disability Block). Holmesglen will organise your placement and you will be supported by a Holmesglen trainer during your placement

Assessment

Assessments are designed to provide learners with opportunities to demonstrate they have attained the required skills and knowledge using a range of practically based activities and tasks, as required by recognised standards.
