Studying the Certificate IV in Disability Support at Holmesglen

This course is structured to provide you with the skills and knowledge in subject areas such as empowerment, inclusion, person centred planning, supporting positive lifestyle, advocacy, augmented and alternative communication and human development. <p>Your learning will be facilitated by experienced trainers with close links to the disability sector, who share contemporary models including the Human Rights approach and the Social Model of Disability. <p>Units in this course feature an online component (for example, discussion boards and quizzes). You will be supported by your teachers to develop the necessary skills to undertake these online components.

Entry Requirements

To qualify for this course, you must have completed one of these courses:<p> - CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)<br> - CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)<br> - CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability, along with the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set.
Applicants must be 18 years+ to apply for the course. <p>Prior to enrolment or commencement of training you will be required to complete a literacy and numeracy assessment and a pre-training interview. <p>These will assist with determining your suitability to the course, verify your training plan, and identify any learning support needs.
All applicants are required to complete the Pre-Training Review form, attend a course intake interview and complete Holmesglen's bksb online LLN assessment tool as part of the pre-training review process. <p>Applicants must provide documented evidence of their successful completion of the prerequisite studies to be eligible for consideration for entry into this course. In addition, they should demonstrate commitment to completing the course and a genuine interest in working in the Disability sector and with people who have a disability.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

Holmesglen offers effective study options (fully on-campus training with access to online learning resources). Delivery of your course has been scheduled for 2 days per week over an 18-week semester. You will also need to complete some online learning tasks.<p>There are no Practical Placement requirements for this course.<p>You will attend classes on-campus at Chadstone every Tuesday and Friday from 9.30am – 4.00pm.<p>To receive this qualification, you must complete 7 core units and 3 elective units. In most cases your prerequisite studies should enable you to receive a credit for the elective units.
