The Diploma of Nursing covers the nursing skills and knowledge you require to be eligible for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as an Enrolled nurse, providing preparation for nursing practice that is client-focused and holistic.

Studying the Diploma of Nursing at Holmesglen

You will learn in our Simulated Hospital Environment and Immersive Learning Centre at both our Moorabbin and Bourke St Campuses.<p>Our industry-current, qualified Nurse teachers/staff will support you through the course. You will learn through a combination of on-campus theory, simulation activities in a nursing environment, and supported clinical placements in a variety of clinical settings. <p>The range of clinical placements reflects the diverse opportunities for employment for enrolled nurses in the health workforce, which includes aged care, rehabilitation, community, sub-acute, and acute settings.<p>Holmesglen will register all students with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).<p>For information on healthcare workers and students living with blood-borne viruses and performing exposure-prone procedures at risk of exposure to blood-borne viruses, please refer to the<a href= "https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/content/dam/holmesglen/pdf/courses/bachelor/cdna-national-guidelines-healthcare-workers.pdf"> Australian national guidelines (PDF 895KB)</a>.

Entry Requirements

Students must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the course commencement.<p>All applicants must sit a Basic Key Skills Builder (BKSB) test. This test will be administered via Holmesglen. You must achieve a minimum exit level three (3), working at level four (4) in numeracy and literacy.<br> <br>Applicants may be required to attend an interview.<p><strong>Diploma of Nursing English Language Requirements.</strong> The Diploma of Nursing has entry criteria set by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council. All students entering this course must demonstrate they have achieved the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) specified level of English language skills, prior to commencing the course. <a href="https://www.holmesglen.edu.au/content/dam/holmesglen/pdf/diploma/diploma-of-nursing/Diploma-of-Nursing-Entry-Requirements.pdf">Download the English language requirements here (PDF - 60kb) </a>.<p>You need to be motivated to practise safely and professionally within the defined scope of practice of the enrolled nurse.

You may be admitted to the course with advanced standing for units of the qualification that have been completed at another registered training organisation. Advanced standing will be judged on a case-by-case basis.

Recognition of prior learning

You may be able to reduce the number of units to be studied in your chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Course Structure

Timetable

Classes can be scheduled between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday, 3-4 days per week, which can change each semester.<p>Students can expect to be on campus for a minimum 20 hours per week. Semester breaks will be scheduled into the timetable.<p>This course includes a minimum of 400 hours of clinical placement, which may be arranged for you during the semester or during semester breaks. Clinical placements will be arranged at locations across Victoria. Prior to the first clinical placement, all students must be fit tested for a N95 mask and may be required to hold a NDIS screening. All students must be available during these periods.
